Kiambu county senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has voiced his concerns moments after goons stormed a funeral event in Limuru that he had attended alongside former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, and disrupted it.

Thang’wa in a statement made via his official X account condemned the incident and thanked Limuru residents for ensuring their safety.

Thang’wa on Gachagua’s safety

The lawmaker confirmed that Gachagua had escaped unharmed, stating that they would not be intimidated or silenced through such incidents.

“But the People’s Deputy President is safe. Asanteni sana, watu wa Limuru, for ensuring our safety. We will not be intimidated or silenced—now we know!” Thang’wa stated.

MP Kaguchia speaks

Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia who had also accompanied Gachagua to the event has also condemned the incident, saying that it had been orchestrated by well-coordinated goons in a most unfortunate turn of events.

According to Kaguchia, those against the former DP have resulted in to use of violence and goonism.

The lawmaker went ahead to urge the perpetrators of the chaotic incident to desist.

“While in the company of Gachagua, we have been attacked by well-coordinated goons in a most unfortunate turn of events. It’s shocking that those against Gachagua have now resulted in the use of violence and goonism. Is this why all his security was withdrawn? I want to call on all those hellbent on causing violence to desist as this is taking our country in the wrong direction,” Kaguchia stated.

Morara condemns the incident

Political activist and government accountability advocate Morara Kebaso who has since declared his interest for the 2027 presidency, has also condemned the incident.

Morara in a statement shared via his official X account on Thursday, November 28, 2024, said that no one in the country has a monopoly on violence.

“I condemn the attack on Hon Rigathi Gachagua in Limuru by goons that left many people injured and property destroyed. No one has the monopoly of violence. If things continue this way the nation will descend into civil war,” Morara stated.

Gachagua was on Thursday, November 28, 2024, forced to flee after chaos rocked a burial event he had attended in Limuru, Kiambu county.

What began as a solemn occasion quickly spiralled into chaos as a rowdy crowd disrupted the event when they started shaking a tent Gachagua was seated alongside his allies including Senator Thang’wa.

Those inside the tent were prompted to rush out in fear as they scampered for safety.

Gachagua, alongside Senator Thang’wa and other dignitaries, were hurriedly evacuated by their security personnel, boarded their vehicles and fled the scene.
