Nyandarua Senator John Muhia Methu has called on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to seek out more political allies from the opposition, although he specifically advised against forming ties with Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.
Methu spoke of the importance of expanding the government to be more inclusive, aligning with President William Ruto’s vision for a broad-based administration.
Methu on dismantling traps
He noted that with opposition leader Raila Odinga now working with the president, it is crucial to dismantle the barriers and traps previously set to prevent opposition figures from joining the government.
“Sisi tumeamua tusaidie tuunde serekali na hata President William Ruto amesema tukuwe broad based. Hata Raila ambaye tulikuwa tunashindana naye ameingia ndani. Sasa nataka nikuulize ile mitego tulikuwa tumeteka tutegue unajua inaweza kutega marafiki zetu. (We have decided to help build the government, and even President William Ruto has said we should be broad-based. Even Raila, whom we were competing with, has joined us. Now I want to ask you (Gachagua) to remove the traps we had set; you know they might ensnare our friends,” Methu said.
Methu also suggested that Gachagua should reach out to other opposition leaders to form alliances, mentioning figures like Kalonzo Musyoka and George Natembeya as potential allies.
Methu’s advice
He advised Gachagua to build relationships with various leaders and their supporters to strengthen the political network.
“Na wewe utafute marafiki wengine kwa sababu iko marafiki wameshika na tafuta marafiki mshikane, wale wadogo wadogo. Kutana na Kalonzo shikana na yeye akue rafiki wako, kutana ule mtu mwingine wa tawe shikana na yeye akue rafiki yako. Ukitana na mtu ako na wabunge wawili, watatu akue rafiki wako. Mtu mmoja ndio tunaweza kukuambia usisumbuke sana na yeye ni ule running mate wa Raila anaitwa Martha Karua. Hana mbunge, hana gavana hana senator hana chief huyo unaweza achana na yeye. (And you should seek out other friends because there are friendships already in place. Look for allies. Meet with Kalonzo, befriend him, and find the other guy of Tawe to be your ally. If you meet someone with two or three MPs, make them your friend. One person we can tell you not to bother with is Martha Karua, Raila’s running mate. She has no MP, no governor, no senator, no chief; you can leave her out,” he added.
