Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege has called on Mount Kenya residents to rally behind new Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking in Murang’a County, Sabina called for unity in the Mount Kenya region and encouraged residents in the region to accept Kindiki as the new DP.

While urging Mt Kenya residents to show support for Kindiki and pray for him, the nominated MP also appealed to leaders in Parliament and the Senate to refrain from chest thumping when explaining the new changes to the Mt Kenya people.

“I want to ask Mount Kenya people, please let’s remain calm. I want to urge leaders in Senate and parliament let us be humble, let us explain to this people politely without chest thumping, this people have no problem, we have had two sons of the mountain, one has served for two years the other one hopefully he is going to serve for the next three years. Let us encourage each other, let us pray for him and support him because we cannot be in the opposition,” she said.

Sabina insisted that the region has to support Kindiki so as to remain in government and reap benefits such as quality healthcare, education and security.

She further called on legislators to stop politicking and start working for the people in the remaining years left to the 2027 General Election.

“We want to work with government so that we can benefit. We are talking about healthcare, education, security, where can we get all this if we are not in the government. I also want to ask my colleagues let us drop the politics and work for our people because we only have three years to serve,” she added.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki took the oath of office as the country’s second-in-command on Friday, November 1, 2024, in a colourful ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

As he assumed office, Kindiki became Kenya’s third deputy president under the new constitution.

His appointment followed after former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly and the Senate.
