A cleric has appealed to President William Ruto to reinstate the offices of the First Lady and the Spouse to Deputy President which he abolished on June 30 this year.

Stewards Revival Pentecostal Church head bishop, Samuel Njiriri said the importance of those two offices cannot exactly be quantified for the amount of responsibilities they handled for the Kenyan society.

“Better scrap other offices, but leave these two intact,” Bishop Njiriri said during an interview yesterday, noting that society will always be a better place when you empower a woman.

Amazing outcomes

“I have worked closely with both offices, and it’s worthy to note that the work the two ladies have done for Kenyans is amazing going by the outcomes,” a close friend of the President, Bishop Njiriri intimated.

Despite the legal hurdles that presented during the debate on the legitimacy of the offices, he even went ahead to say that President Ruto was misadvised to scrap them, arguing that they were not political entities.

“There’s an old adage about empowering a woman to enlighten the society that we should not forget,” he said in reference to the slogan, “when you empower a woman, you empower the world.”

He noted it is disturbing to imagine the silence from women elected leaders and those advocating for women rights about the scrapping of these two offices.
