Raila Odinga is confident that his African dream of peace and posterity is intact.

The former Premier made the statement after meeting with the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Nairobi.

“We held a preparatory meeting towards the launch of my AUC campaign on 27th August 2024. Our commitment to the African dream of prosperity, peace, unity, and stability for all is intact,” Raila said in a statement on X.

While addressing the press at his Railways office, Mudavadi explained the need for Kenyans to stand in support of Raila as he pursues the continental dream.

“To fellow Kenyans, as a nation, we have always come together to stand behind our own, whether on the tracks, the fields, or on the global stage. Just as we cheered our athletes in the recent Olympics, let us lend our full support to Hon. Raila Odinga as he carries the Kenya flag high in the race for the Chairmanship of the African Union Commission.

“This is more than a candidacy; it is a national mission. Hon. Raila Odinga represents Kenya’s voice, values, and aspirations on the continent. As he steps forward, let us stand with him, not just as a government but as a united people,” the former Sabatia Member of Parliament said.

ODM’s statement

The Orange Party emphasised that Mudavadi pledged the full support of the Kenya Kwanza government for the former Lang’ata MP.

“They discussed the progress of the campaign so far and the activities to follow after Tuesday’s event. Mudavadi pledged the government’s commitment to spearhead the campaign to ensure Raila wins the seat,” the party said in a statement on X.

Rivals

The Kenyan candidate will square it out with Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssou, former Mauritius Foreign Minister Anil Kumarsingh Gayan, and former Madagascar Foreign Minister Richard James Randriamandrato.

Raila and the other candidates will initially face a panel for interviews, which will comprise Burundian academic Paul Ngarambe, Ethiopian diplomat Konjit SineGiorgis, Patrick Hayford of Ghana, and Nozipho Joyce Mxakato-Diseko from South Africa.
