Raila, other Azimio leaders visit Mukuru

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has led a host of other leaders to visit Kware area in Mukuru slum, Nairobi where bodies are being retrieved.

The Opposition leader was accompanied by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Siaya Governor James Orengo, George Wajackoya and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

During the Sunday, July 14, 2024 visit, Raila and other Azimio leaders expressed their condolences to a large number of Kenyans who had gathered to witness the body retrieval exercise.

Raila and other Azimio leaders assured the residents that they would ensure perpetrators of the heinous act were brought to book.

“Visited the Quarry of Horrors in Kware dumpsite Nairobi today, with fellow Azimio leaders to condole with Kenyans who gave us 3 messages as we assured them that those who bear the greatest responsibility for these atrocities will face the full force of the Law,” Eugene Wamalwa wrote on his X page.

Calls for accountability

Azimio leaders have been at the forefront in demanding justice and expeditious investigations after bodies were retrieved from the quarry with some having been severely mutilated.

Raila expressed sadness indicating that should be allowed to happen in the country.

“It’s a sad and dark moment for Kenya, what we have witnessed in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, pains me deeply. To the families who have lost loved ones, accept my deepest condolences. The perpetrators of these and other heinous acts must face the full force of the law immediately,” Raila stated on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

“The people of Kenya demand accountability.”

The same message was shared by Siaya Governor Orengo calling on various investigative agencies to investigate and give a full account of what transpired.

Ruto’s orders

President William Ruto has since directed the relevant authorities to expedite investigations over bodies wrapped in polythene bags that were retrieved in the Kware dumpsite in Mukuru kwa Njenga.

Speaking during the launch of the Kelvin Kiptum Foundation at Our Lady of Glory Kaptagat Girls High School in Elgeyo Marakwet, Ruto assured the public that those involved in the act would be arrested and charged.

“Those who are charged with making sure there is comprehensive investigations on matters we have witnessed in Kware where many Kenyans including young girls have lost their lives, that process must be expedited and the truth found so that who are involved in the heinous act must be punished and the law to apply in its full extent,” the Head of State announced.

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Ibrahim Mohamed Amin noted that detectives will explore different areas to nab the suspects.

Some of the hypotheses listed by DCI include exploring cult activities, rogue medical practices or criminal activities.
