President William Ruto has once again explained why he formed the broad-based government after including members of the opposition in his cabinet.

Ruto, who attended Wycliffe Oparanya‘s thanksgiving ceremony in Kakamega County on Saturday, August 24, 2024, said a united country gives the citizens a chance to turn their dreams into reality.

“The broad-based government offers us a unique opportunity for a better Kenya. A Kenya that embraces all and offers everyone equal opportunity to participate in building our nation. A Kenya where we can turn our everyday dream into an everyday reality.

“At the Mabole Primary School Grounds in Butere for the Thanksgiving ceremony for the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development,” Ruto said in a post on X.

Oparanya, Hassan Joho (Mining), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), and John Mbadi (Treasury) are new members in the cabinet who were appointed from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Before his appointment as CS, Oparanya was Ruto’s leading critic, but once he assumed his office, he said he had realised how Kenya Kwanza had performed.

Na hii wiki moja nimekaa kwa hii serikali, nimeona imefanya mambo mengi. You know, when I was outside, I didn’t know what was inside. But now that I am inside, I know how it is.

“I have obeyed the call. I will now join the president to develop the country,” Oparanya said in a recent statement.

Ruto in Nandi

Apart from his public engagements in Kakamega, Ruto was also in Nandi County, where he launched development projects.

He said that the economy can grow once there is reliable power in the country.

“Our country’s economy grows when homesteads and businesses access reliable and affordable electricity. That is our plan for our villages across the country.

“In Cheptigit, Nandi County, launched the Last Mile Connectivity at the Aldai Dairy Cooperative Factory. Also inspected the Kobujoi Market that will offer a conducive place for hundreds of traders to operate from,” Ruto said.
