President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga will on Saturday, August 24, 2024, grace the homecoming ceremony of Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya in Butere, Kakamega County.

Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa, in a poster shared via his official X account, has confirmed the attendance of President Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader.

Oparanya gifted with bulls

Political leaders from the larger Western region have been gifting Oparanya with bulls which will be slaughtered during the event.

Bumula Constituency Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka is one of the leaders that have confirmed gifting a bull to Oparanya.

Wamboka said his people have a shared history and brotherhood with Oparanya, spanning many years.

“My team this evening delivered a bull to Wycliffe Oparanya, CS in charge of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development in his Mabole home ahead of his thanksgiving ceremony tomorrow. We have a shared history and brotherhood with Hon Oparanya spanning many years. We join fellow Kenyans in celebrating his new role and wish him the best as he serves Kenyans,” Wamboka stated.

Oparanya told journalists on Friday that President Ruto will first attend a church service in his home area around noon, before gracing his ceremony.

During the event, Oparanya said a total of 30 bulls will be slaughtered.

The former ODM Deputy Party leader stated that most of the bulls that will be slaughtered to feed people at the event have been gifted to him by leaders and friends.

200 people at Oparanya’s home

Oparanya urged locals to arrive at Mabole Primary schools early, telling them that they should understand when a section of them get denied access to his home compound for reception.

“As you are all aware, when a President goes to a place, security is tightened. Those who will be at Mabole Primary School will not all be allowed at this home for the reception,” Oparanya said.

According to Oparanya, there will be just about 200 people at his home as per the directives from State House.
