Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Gachagua in Nyeri
Among the top news events of the day, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be in Nyeri County, where he is expected to officially grace the opening of this year’s Central Kenya National Agricultural show at Kabiru-ini grounds in Nyeri Town constituency.
This comes just a day after at least 48 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Mt Kenya region rejected the leadership of DP Gachagua and instead endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the new link between the region and the Presidency.
The MPs, who spoke in Nyahururu town on September 12, 2024, claim that Gachagua has been perpetuating politics on unity to support individual and personal ambition rather than the articulation, pursuit and lobbying of the interests of Mt Kenya constituents.
“Our efforts to consolidate the developmental needs of the people we represent and canvass for their realisation has been frustrated by the lack of a focal point of reference around whom we can channel the interests and priorities of our people to the government for actualisation.
“Instead, the Mt Kenya region has suffered high-octane politics around unity to support individual and personal ambition rather than the articulation, pursuit and lobbying of the interests of our constituents,” the statement read in part.
DP Gachagua might use today’s platform in Nyeri, to fire a response at the lawmakers.
Reactions to Ruto’s Germany trip
President William Ruto on Thursday, September 12, 2024, evening, jetted out of the country for a two-day official visit to Germany, with his trip expected to continue stirring mixed reactions.
State House Spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed, in a statement, highlighted key benefits that Kenya expects to gain from President Ruto’s visit to Germany.
Mohamed highlighted employment opportunities for the youth and enhanced educational and vocational opportunities as some of the goodies Ruto will bag from his trip.
“Both countries encourage the immigration of skilled workers who have completed vocational training or a university-level degree, and whose qualifications have been recognised by the competent authorities of the other party,” Mohamed said.
