Wetang’ula installed as Tachoni community spokesperson
By Faith Lagat, December 26, 2025National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has been installed as the spokesperson for the Tachoni community during the annual Tachoni Cultural Festival at Masinde Muliro Grounds in Webuye East constituency, Bungoma County.
Addressing residents and leaders in attendance, Wetang’ula wrote, “I was honoured to be installed as the Tachoni spokesperson, a role I am committed to undertaking with unwavering support to the community that has been key to my political success.”
The ceremony held on December 26, 2025, formed part of the community’s annual cultural celebrations that bring together elders, youth, and leaders to promote heritage and unity.

Wetang’ula joined members of the Tachoni community as they marked their Cultural Festival Day, an event that draws participants from across Bungoma County and neighbouring regions.
The festival was characterised by cultural symbolism and public addresses by leaders drawn from both national and county levels, reflecting the community’s growing political and social organisation.
Development plans for Webuye
During his address, Wetang’ula highlighted government development initiatives targeting Webuye town and its environs.

“Further, I noted that Webuye township, being the second largest urban centre in the county, the government has put measures in place to upgrade it to boost economic activities.” He told residents that the revival of the collapsed Pan Paper Mills was central to the town’s economic recovery.
Wetang’ula noted that the revival of Panpaper Mills would be key to injecting a new economic life into the town and also informed residents that production activities would soon start after President William Ruto authorised the investor to harvest trees for raw material.
The Pan Paper Mills has been under rehabilitation by the Rai Group, with the government paying Ksh 229 million to former workers in November 2025 as part of a settlement process ahead of the resumption of operations. The factory was once a major employer in the region before it collapsed more than a decade ago.
Energy and cultural preservation
Wetang’ula also announced developments in the energy sector aimed at supporting both local industry and the national grid.
“In my address, I notified the gathering that KenGen is setting up an electricity generating plant within Webuye Falls to boost the national grid and stabilise electricity supply.” The project is expected to enhance power reliability in the region and support industrial growth once Pan Paper resumes operations.
Wetang’ula was accompanied by Senate Chief Whip Wafula Wakoli, Bungoma County MP Catherine Wambilianga, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, Webuye East MP Martin Pepela, MCAs and other leaders.
