Weatherman forecasts hot, dry week across Kenya with isolated showers
The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its weekly weather forecast covering February 10 to 16, 2026, warning of mostly sunny and dry conditions across much of the country, with rain expected in a few specific regions.
According to the department, most parts of Kenya will remain dry throughout the week. However, showers are likely in the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, and Western Kenya. Residents in these areas should prepare for intermittent rainfall, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
The forecast shows that hot daytime conditions will dominate several regions. Daytime maximum temperatures will rise above 30°C in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern Kenya, and North-western Kenya.
“Daytime (maximum) temperatures above 30°C are expected in several parts of the country, including the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the department said.
While days will remain hot in low-lying areas, night-time temperatures will drop sharply in higher regions. The department expects minimum temperatures below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro. Residents in these regions should expect cold nights and early mornings.

Last week’s weather review
The department also reviewed weather conditions from the previous week, between February 2 and 8, 2026. Rainfall occurred in isolated areas, mainly in the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya. Meteorologists recorded a slight increase in rainfall over the Lake Victoria Basin compared to earlier weeks.
The highest 24-hour rainfall during that period reached 48.2 millimetres at Suba Meteorological Station in Homa Bay County on February 7, 2026. The department said the reading shows that even during generally dry periods, some areas can still experience heavy downpours.
Temperature readings last week reflected Kenya’s wide climatic contrasts. The highest daily maximum temperature reached 38.2°C at Lodwar Meteorological Station on 5 February 2026, while the lowest daily minimum temperature dropped to 6.4°C at Nyahururu Meteorological Station on 3 February 2026.
The Kenya Meteorological Department continues to issue updates through its official website, WhatsApp channel, and the FASTA-Ken platform, offering weekly and county-specific forecasts. The department urged the public to monitor daily updates as conditions may change.
