Ways to enjoy Christmas in city despite empty pockets

By , December 24, 2019

Christmas is here and for many, it is time to visit relatives in rural areas. However, hard economic times have forced some to spend the holidays in Nairobi. Here are a few ways you can enjoy Christmas in the city.

Invite friends for Christmas brunch: Brunch parties are relaxed affairs and one can put together a meal at the last minute.

Call a few friends and to make the party merrier, request them to come with homemade meals to reduce time spent in the kitchen.

Picnic date with family: Sounds a bit cliché but it is quite an ideal and intimate affair. Make a few homemade bittings such as sandwiches, sausages and fries. During the picnic, play a few family games.

Attend a concert: Though major concerts will be taking place today, find a musical affair that you can attend with friends.

For example, Serve Jah Reggae Concert will be taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) graced by Jamaican artiste Luciano. There are also several events taking place in clubs.

Go the “choma” way or “koroga”: Usually, you visit a restaurant and they let you cook as a group. For the choma, you can come together as friends and slaughter a goat or as many may say, kuchinja mbuzi. Alternatively, attend a religious service, and enjoy Christmas hymns.
