Westlands Member of Parliament (MP) Tim Wanyonyi has voiced his discontent with Nairobi’s governance, highlighting key issues affecting the county.

In his statement shared via his official X account on Thursday, April 3, 2025, Wanyonyi who called for better governance decried that the country’s capital was witnessing an alarming rate of continued mismanagement of resources.

He took issue with the recently released report that revealed irregularities in the Dishi na County Program and the contradicting statistic revealing that Nairobi was ranked among the bottom 10 counties in development expenditure.

The Auditor-General’s report uncovered massive irregularities in the Dishi Na County program, while Nairobi remains among the lowest in development spending.

“Nairobi was ranked among bottom 10 counties in development expenditure, allocating only 10.3% instead of the required 30%. Shockingly, smaller counties like Narok are generating more revenue than our nation’s capital. Instead of uplifting our city, funds are being mismanaged or diverted,” he said.

Wanyonyi subsequently called for better leadership noting it is high time leaders embrace real leadership focused on service delivery.

“Meanwhile, Nairobians continue to struggle with poor service delivery. It’s time for real leadership, real accountability, and real change,” he added.

Lately, Wanyonyi has been affirming his ardent resolve to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general election, vowing not to back down despite past political setbacks.

“Last time, ODM betrayed me, but this time, we are saying there will be no such thing. We will fight, and that is why I want to contest for the position of Nairobi so that we can strengthen the party,” Wanyonyi stated on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

He also recalled how his 2022 gubernatorial ambitions were prematurely cut short when he was pressured to step down in favour of former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe under the Azimio la Umoja coalition arrangement.

“(In 2022) Before we had even gone far (in the campaigns), someone stood up and told me, ‘Tim Wanyonyi will now be the deputy of someone else,’ someone I don’t even know. They just brought him in,” Wanyonyi recounted.

“And what work does a deputy have? He just goes to City Hall to read newspapers. I asked them, I have campaigned to be the governor of Nairobi, so now I should go back to the people and tell them I am a deputy? Will they believe me? I told them I could see a plot to destroy me. I decided I would rather go back and continue serving the people of Westlands,” he shared.

He additionally reaffirmed his commitment to contest for the position maintaining that he will resist any attempt to sideline him.

“But this time, we shall fight. We will fight you and the whole of Nairobi. We will have our own army. One by one, we will go to Orange House and demand our certificate,” he stated.
