Wanyama makes cameo appearance in Montreal Impact’s 2nd consecutive loss
Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama featured for the Montreal Impact in a league match against Orlando City, but his side suffered a 3-0 defeat at Exploria Stadium.
Montreal Impact came into the match on the back of a 4-1 loss to Atlanta United and were eager to return to winning ways.
Wanyama late introduction
Wanyama entered the game in the final 12 minutes, replacing Samuel Piette, although at that point, his team was already trailing 3-0.
In the match, Dagur Thórhallsson and Facundo Torres each scored in the second half, securing a 3-0 victory for Orlando City. This win allowed Orlando to set a club record with 54 points and 15 wins.
Orlando City is currently on an impressive streak, being unbeaten in 13 straight home matches in all competitions, including eight wins. Their last loss at Exploria Stadium dates back to April.
In contrast, Montreal Impact has been struggling, with a season-long winless streak of six straight regular-season matches, including four losses.
Orlando took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute through an own goal by Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois. A shot by Torres hit the post and deflected off Sirois into the net.
Torres sealed the victory in the 54th minute, just four minutes after Thórhallsson’s goal.
Both teams have upcoming fixtures on Wednesday, with Orlando City visiting Nashville, and Montreal Impact hosting the Houston Dynamo.
Despite featuring in 24 appearances in 2023, tallying 1779 minutes of play, Wanyama has yet to score a goal.
