Wambugu dares Gachagua to match Kindiki by pulling massive crowds during the Christmas giveaway
By Mabonga Makhanu, December 24, 2025Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has dared former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to carry out a Christmas giveaway at his Wamunyoro home and draw massive crowds similar to what his successor, Kithure Kindiki, did at his Irundini home.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Wednesday, December 23, 2025, Wambugu Ngunjiri, a former ally of Rigathi Gachagua who has since turned into one of his fiercest critics, challenged Gachagua to prove that he is indeed the Mount Kenya kingpin he claims to be.
Wambugu said Gachagua should stage a rival Christmas giveaway matching Kindiki’s, which saw thousands of Tharaka Nithi residents flock to the home of the “Fire si Fire” slogan hitmaker.

According to Wambugu, such massive crowds do not just turn up to listen to a leader unless they genuinely believe in him.
He went on to challenge Gachagua to prove that the images showing huge crowds at Kindiki’s homestead were not AI-generated, saying this would put any doubts to rest.
“Weuh! Weuh! Weuh! Who are all these people meeting Kindiki? Do they know what our kingpin Jofri calls him? Sasa Jofri must do something like this hapo Wamunyoro!” Wambugu said.
During the giveaway, Kindiki was seen personally distributing Christmas gifts to locals and even climbing on one of the trucks issuing food supplies..

The large turnout comes at a time when Kindiki’s political influence in the Mount Kenya region appears to be steadily growing.
Following his recent victory in Mbeere North, where his preferred candidate, Leonard Wamuthende, running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, defeated Newton Karish, a candidate backed by the opposition and widely viewed as the one who would have won.
Gachagua’s message
During this Christmas period, the former deputy president has since maintained a low profile but came out during the day in the company of his wife to send a happy holiday message to Kenyans, urging them to share the little they have with those who might not afford to celebrate the festive holiday.

It also comes at a time when politicians are rushing back to their jurisdictions for Christmas and New Year giveaways in order to share with their electorates.
Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi was among the most recent leaders to draw national attention after holding a massive giveaway at his Kapsaret residence.
