Eugene Wamalwa: Ruto almost slapped me too

By , July 10, 2022

Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa now says Deputy President William Ruto almost slapped him in 2018.

Speaking during an Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition rally at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega, Wamalwa stated that the DP nearly slapped him for leading a delegation from Western Kenya to Statehouse without informing him.

“Ruto was very furious demanding that I resign from my position. He demanded that I give an explanation as to why I had taken the leaders to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta without his permission,” he stated.

According to Wamalwa who noted that he had already forgiven Ruto for the embarrassment he had caused him, the second-in-command is not qualified to lead the country.

“I have forgiven the DP for the embarrassment he caused me. The incidents show that he cannot be trusted with leadership,” Wamalwa added.

Ruto allegedly confesses how he almost slapped Uhuru

Wamalwa’s confession comes barely a week after an audio clip of the Kenya Kwanza leader allegedly confessing how he almost slapped his boss in 2017 leaked.

In the 90-second audio clip that went viral, the DP was heard saying that he pushed Uhuru to participate in the repeat presidential poll after losing a petition at the supreme court in 2017.

“So, ndiyo huyo… Oh, sasa, hii maneno, sijui nini, mimi sitaki, mimi nataki kuenda Ichaweri, sasa mimi sitaki, wacha tuachane na hii kitu.” (Here is the President and he says he is not keen on participating in the repeat presidential election and that he wants to go to Ichaweri (his home village in Kiambu County), that we should abandon this thing,” Ruto was heard saying.

“Mimi nikamwangalia, nikamwambia ‘wewe’! Ni vile tu nilikua na heshima, ningemchapa kofi. Ati sisi tuache?” (I looked at him and told him ‘you!’ It’s only that I was being respectful, I would have slapped him. How could we just quit?)
