A month after successively wrestling power from his former boss Mohamed Mahamud, Wajir Governor Ahmed Ali Muktar has embarked on a whirlwind citizen engagement and consultative dialogue forums, dubbed Xilkena (Wajibu Wetu) to access the state of service delivery.

The forums some conducted in partnership with Wajir Community Radio.

Governor Muktar aims to enhance good governance, human rights and gender equality in Wajir County.

He told People Daily Digital that his administration’s focus is a total shift of mindsets especially in service delivery on critical sectors as Health, Water, Food Security, Education and climate change adaptation.

“It is our civic duty to at all times inform the public on our services, engage and incorporate their opinions in executing the public services and further have them as an integral part for ownership and compliance to the rule of law,” Muktar said.

“We are seeking to prioritize developmental projects at grassroots levels so that residents in remote localities experience Governance and the tune of dynamics,” he added.

Muktar has been traversing the county’s 30 electoral wards to discuss issues he deems of interest and address challenges facing residents.

He visited Adamasajida Health Center in a bid to assess the situation of the facility, interacted with the staff and later had a meeting with the residents of adamasajida and Habaswein Wards respectively.

Earlier, the governor had visited Habaswein Sub-County, Visited the Habaswein General hospital and Griftu Sub-County Hospital to assess the situation of the facility and check on the services given to patients.

“I was impressed by their hard work and dedication to work in attending to people in need,’” the governor said of the visits.

“It’s our core mandate as leaders to listen and address the plea of the electorates, as this promotes servantry leadership which remains the Core Cornerstone of my tenure,” he added.

Last week, the governor accompanied by Wajir West MP Ahmed Kolosh, made an impromptu inspection of boreholes and Health Centres in Shanta Abaq and Barmil towns, Wajir West Constituency.

“Satisfactorily assessed the situation of the centres, it’s on record that more is required to uplift the art of service delivery on the same, plans to improve the current situation are underway,” he posted.

“My government is committed to ensuring our people get access to clean water and healthcare services,” he said.

Accompanied by Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim Amin, the governor commissioned Last Mile Connectivity projects across Wajir town.

“This Initiative aims at achieving universal access to electrical connectivity and as such 10 transformers that will serve 5000 households across different sites in Wajir East was launched today,” he said.

He observed the course will go a long way in improving access to clean energy and also improve livelihoods by powering SMEs.
