Wajir: Governor Ahmed election challenged in court

By , December 9, 2022

Hassan Mohamed Adan has asked the court to overturn the election of Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir on grounds that the gubernatorial election in Wajir East constituency was not carried out in accordance with the constitution and election laws of the country.

Hassan, who came second in the hotly contested seat, garnered 27,224 votes under the Jubilee party while the current governor Ahmed garnered 35,533 votes under ODM party ticket.

The petitioner while testifying at Milimani High Court in Nairobi pleaded with the court to order scrutiny of the election materials and nullify the election of the governor.

He further told the court that half of the KIEMS kits deployed by IEBC for the entire election in Wajir East constituency failed and most of the voters were identified manually.

While being re-cross-examined by his lawyer, Hassan told justice George Ndulu that he does not accept the counting and tallying that was done by the IEBC as the process was marred with padding of votes, exaggeration of votes turnouts, irregular and unlawful assisted voting, and unlawful ejection of his agents.
