Waiguru urges Kirinyaga residents to take part in enhanced voter registration exercise
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, March 30, 2026Anne Mumbi Waiguru, the governor of Kirinyaga County, has called on Kirinyaga residents who are eligible to take part in the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise that is currently going on. Waiguru has called on the residents to take advantage of the 30-day registration drive, launched by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which runs until 28th April 2026.
Taking it to her social media platforms on Monday, March 30, 2026, Governor Waiguru encouraged residents to register at Kutus Town and other designated centres across the county, emphasising that every vote counts in shaping Kenya’s future.
“Today, @IEBCKenya has rolled out the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR), a 30-day exercise running until 28th April 2026, and I encourage all eligible residents of Kirinyaga to take advantage of this opportunity by registering at Kutus Town and other designated centres across the county. This is your chance to be heard and secure our future,” Waiguru stated.

The ECVR 2026 exercise provides an opportunity for first-time voters to register, while existing voters can update their details, including changes in name, address, or polling station. The initiative is part of the IEBC’s efforts to ensure a credible, transparent, and inclusive voters’ register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Waiguru highlighted that participation in voter registration is not just a civic duty but a responsibility to the future of the county and the nation. Residents are encouraged to carry valid identification documents, such as a national ID or birth certificate, when visiting registration centres.
The governor also reassured residents that the IEBC has put in place measures to make the process safe, efficient, and accessible to all, ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out.
IEBC kickstarts enhanced continuous voter registration
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set an ambitious target of growing Kenya’s voter register to 28.5 million by the 2027 General Election, following insights drawn from the 2022 Post-Election Evaluation Report, which recorded 22,120,458 registered voters.

The Commission, led by its chairperson, Erastus Ethokon, announced a nationwide rollout of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise across all county assembly wards and 57 Huduma Centres during the national launch in Kwale County on March 30, 2026. The initiative aims to register at least 2.5 million new voters.
