Vulnerable children face an uncertain
future – PS

The government yesterday acknowledged challenges Kenya faces in providing adequate care for vulnerable children.

The Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizens, Joseph Motari, noted that the challenges include poverty, limited access to education and healthcare, child labor and child abuse.

Speaking at a Nairobi hotel, the PS said the challenges have a profound impact on the well-being and future prospects of children.

“These challenges cast a long shadow over the well-being and future prospects of children across the nation,” he said.

Motari highlighted the government’s ongoing cash transfer programmes which he said play a pivotal role in providing crucial support to vulnerable families. He added that the support ensure that children have access to essentials such as food and education.

“The “Inua Jamii” ensures that children with different disabilities are included. A series of initiatives have been launched to enhance childcare and social services, this include: Cash Transfer Programmes, Child Protection Services, and education for all,” Motari noted.

He stated that the government had put in place a series of initiatives launched to enhance childcare and social services.
