Vihiga MP Beatrice Adagala elected vice chair of CPA Africa region
By Cy Muganda, August 16, 2025Vihiga County Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala has been elected Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region for a three-year term.
In a statement released on its Facebook account on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Parliament announced that the election took place during the 54th Annual Conference for the Association in Banjul, The Gambia.
“Vihiga County Member of Parliament, Hon. (Dr.) Beatrice Adagala has been elected Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Africa Region for a three-year term,” the statement reads.
According to Parliament, the Kenyan delegation to the conference, led by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei, congratulated Adagala on her remarkable achievement.
“While congratulating her, the Kenyan delegation to the 54th Annual Conference for the Association, led by the National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gladys Shollei, noted that this remarkable achievement is a testament to her exemplary leadership,” the statement noted.
The delegation emphasised the broader significance of the election for Kenya’s diplomatic standing.
“They further observed that this underscores Kenya’s growing role in advancing parliamentary diplomacy, collaboration, and unity across the continent,” Parliament stated.
Kenyan delegation
Aside from Adagala and Shollei, the Kenyan delegation to the regional conference included lawmakers and senators.
“Kenya was represented at the conference by Hon. Paul Mwirigi, Hon. Beatrice Adagala, Hon. Julius Mawathe, Hon. Aramat Lemanken, Sen. Alexander Mundigi, and Sen. Beatrice Akinyi,” Parliament stated.

“Accompanying the delegation was National Assembly Deputy Clerk, Mr. Jeremiah Ndombi, and the Deputy Director for Legislative and Procedural Services in the Senate, Mr. Zakayo Mogere,” the statement concluded.
Other leadership changes
Parliament reported that the elections conducted during the forum’s Annual General Meeting also saw changes in the top leadership of the regional body.
“The elections carried out during the forum’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) also saw the Rt. Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia, succeed Rt. Hon. Catherine Gotani Hara, Speaker of the Parliament of Malawi, as Chairperson of the CPA Africa Executive Committee,” the statement reads.
“Outgoing Chairperson, Speaker Hara reflected on her three-year tenure, highlighting the successful ‘Women in Leadership’ initiative, which achieved 30% female representation at CPA conferences in line with constitutional reforms,” the statement adds.
