The inaugural Cecafa Women’s Club  Champions League enters the  semi-finals today as the region’s top teams look to earn their place in the finals on Thursday.

Nothing short of fireworks is expected as each team seeks to be crowned regional champions as well as a place in the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) inaugural Women’s Club Champions League set to take place in Cairo Egypt later this year.

The semi-finals will be staged at Nyayo National Stadium where Kenya’s Vihiga Queens will face off with the tough Simba Queens of Tanzania.

Speaking to the press after thrashing New Generations of Zanzibar 8-0 on Friday, Vihiga Queens assistant coach Boniface Nyamunyamu promised Kenyans nothing short of victory today.

“Looking at our high scores, it means we are doing our work well. We’re going to prepare well so that when we meet Simba, we’ll be in good shape to beat them.

Our prayers as Vihiga Queens and all Kenyans are to make it to the finals. So expect a win against Simba Queens,” said Nyamunyamu.

Vihiga Queens lost their opening match 4-2 to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) FC but bounced back strongly in their second and third group matches by hammering Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan 11-0 and New Generations of Zanzibar 8-0 to sail through.

They scored 21 goals in the process and just conceded four, to emerge as the second-best scoring team in the competition, behind CBE FC.

Simba Queens, on the other hand, started their campaign by beating PVP FC of Burundi 4-1, then drew 0-0 with Lady Doves of Uganda before wrapping up their group phase matches with a 10-0 hammering of FAD FC of Djibouti, making them the second meanest defence in the competition.

In the second semifinal set for 4pm, Lady Doves of Uganda will face off with CBE.
