US has not paused funding for Haiti mission – MSS Commander Godfrey Otunge
By Achieng' Mary, February 6, 2025The Multinational Security Support (MSS) has come out to set the record straight on the US government freezing funding for operations in Haiti.
Addressing the press on Thursday, February 6, 2025, MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge refuted claims that the US government had stopped funding the peace mission in the conflict-stricken carribean country.
He assured that the peace mission in Haiti remains a top priority to the American government, and that the mission to restore peace continues.
“I want to address and correct misinformation circulating across various media platforms suggesting that the US has suspended assistance to the MSS, MSS mission in Haiti remains a priority to the US government, as with any transitioning government structural adjustments are expected, however, as part of the US administration, ongoing 90 day review of development assistance, the MSS mission continues without interruption with all military mechanisms in place ,” Otunge said.

He additionally stated that the US and other partner countries continue to provide logistical and financial support to MSS and that both departments of defense and state remain actively engaged in the operations.
Otunge further assured citizens in Haiti that MSS remains committed to restoring peace.

“The US and other partner countries continue to provide logistical, financial and equipment support to the MSS with support flights arriving almost daily, both departments of defense and the departments of state remain actively engaged in MSS operations. I want to assure everyone especially the people of Haiti that the mission remains on struck,”
Multiple reports on the US freezing funds to the mission rocked various social media outlets.
As of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the reports alluded that the US had halted the disbursement of Ksh1.9 billion for 90 days pending a review.
