TIFA political analyst Tom Wolf has noted that the public tirades between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto is a plus for Azimio la Umoja presidential aspirant Raila Odinga.

Uhuru and Ruto have been engaging in a fierce war of words with just a week to the General Elections.

Speaking in a recent interview, Wolf noted that the tirades which have also involved murder accusations has made Raila look sober and relaxed.

He also noted that the verbal exchange might make Kenyans loose trust in DP Ruto and vote for the Azimio candidate.

“I think with the barbs being exchanged between the president and his deputy, in a way it makes Raila – who is not in the middle of this look more sober and relaxed

“Given the fact that more Kenyans are conservative in their personal relations, they might be put off a bit by this mud slinging. I am not sure,” Wolf said.

Unnecessary responses

The political analyst noted that DP Ruto’s responses to Uhuru and his allies is unnecessary.

“As methodical as the DP is in his campaign strategy, I don’t think his response to the president’s camp is just spontaneous. I am sure that with his think-tank they have decided that this is the best approach; to counter it head-on,” Wolf added.

Uhuru vs Ruto

Last week, DP Ruto slammed Uhuru over what he termed as threats directed to him, further saying that the latter is ungrateful and boastful despite being helped.

Ruto responded to the alleged attack by Uhuru, noting that he was ready to face him provided he doesn’t harm his children.

“Please Mr President, kuwa muungwana, kuwa na shukrani; sisi ndio tulikusaidia. Wacha kujifanya sahii. Unaanza kunithreaten mimi? Ati utanifanya nini? Bora usiuwe watoto wangu, lakini mimi na wewe tafadhali tuheshimiane,” the DP said.

However, Uhuri fired back at the DP clarifying that he was not after his life.

Uhuru noted that he was looking forward to his retirement and he doesn’t intend to do any ill in his final days at the Head of State.

“Everyone, including myself, has the right to campaign for whoever they want. There is no reason for insults and If I answer you because you have lied. There is no reason to tell people I want to kill you,” he said.

Uhuru added that he has persevered insults and humiliation from DP Ruto and his allies and it was useless for him to take action with limited time in office.

“You have insulted me for close three years, has anyone touched you? I was in office for those three years and did I not have the capability? Now that I want to hand over the government and I have limited powers, do you think I have time to look for you?” He stated.
