Uhuru’s cousin Kun’gu Muigai says Kyalo Mbobu had explosive evidence against corrupt judges
By Kiprono Keileb, September 11, 2025Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kun’gu Muigai has spoken out after the killing of city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, saying the late lawyer was holding explosive evidence that would have exposed corruption within the judiciary.
Muigai, who has been battling a land case that has dragged on for more than three decades, said on Thursday, September 11, that Mbobu’s death was a heavy blow to his pursuit of justice. According to him, the lawyer was not just representing him but was also the custodian of documents and recordings that pointed to rot in the judicial system.
“Another lawyer who is acting for me called me and informed me that Kyalo has been killed. He was the custodian of crucial evidence. He was holding four affidavits from our witnesses; he was also the custodian of our two audio recordings,” Muigai said.
Lost evidence
Muigai revealed that Mbobu had collected affidavits and audio evidence that would have shown how corruption was interfering with the fair determination of his long-standing case. He believes the lawyer’s death has once again delayed justice in a matter he has fought for most of his life.
For years, Muigai has accused sections of the judiciary of frustrating him, insisting that corruption has kept his case from being concluded. With Mbobu gone, he says the system has stolen from him yet again.
“Kyalo had crucial evidence that would have unmasked the rot. His death is a huge setback because the judiciary keeps dragging my case, and corruption is at the centre of it,” he said.
Muigai’s frustration reflects the struggles of many Kenyans who feel trapped in endless court cases, weighed down by corruption, and unable to find closure. By tying Mbobu’s death to his fight for justice, Muigai painted a picture of a system where the truth risks being buried along with those who dare to reveal it.
For him, the case is not just about land but about the integrity of a system that is meant to protect, not betray.
