Uhuru pays touching tribute to Bishop Philip Sulumeti

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. Philip Sulumeti of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega, describing the departed as a devoted servant of God and a pillar of faith whose life was defined by humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to service.

In a statement released shortly after Bishop Sulumeti’s death was confirmed on Monday, November 10, 2025, Kenyatta continued to describe the deceased as a moral compass and peacemaker who touched countless lives through his ministry and steadfast dedication to uplifting communities.

Reflecting on his passing, the former Head of State said Bishop Sulumeti’s legacy of faith, unity, and love will remain deeply etched in the hearts of all who knew him. The former President extended his heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega, the clergy, and the faithful at large.

Also, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua seized the opportunity to extend his condolences to the catholic church, friends and family of the late Bishop after the loss.

”I join the Catholic Faithful in the Diocese of Kakamega, in Kenya and the entire world in mourning the passing on of Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. Phillip Sulumeti. Rt. Rev. Philip Sulumeti served God and humanity in great faith following the footsteps of Jesus Christ,” Gachagua took to X on Monday.

”In him was a man of God who spoke the truth and lived by it. I pass my deepest sympathies to the Bishop of Kakamega, Rt. Rev. Joseph Obanyi, the Clergy, the Religious, the Lay Faithful and the people of goodwill. May the Soul of Rt. Rev. Bishop Philip Sulumeti, rest in eternal peace, and perpetual light shine upon him forever,” Gachagua added.

Philip Sulumeti passed away on the night of Sunday, November 9, 2025. His death was officially confirmed by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops – Catholic Justice and Peace Department, on Monday, November 10, 2025, which extended heartfelt condolences to the clergy, religious, lay faithful, and all people of goodwill across the country.
