By , October 15, 2025

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has paid a condolence visit to the home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Karen.

This followed President William Ruto’s official address to the nation on the demise of Raila Odinga, who passed away while receiving treatment in India on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

The former president was accompanied by his wife, Margaret Kenyatta, and was received at the residence by ODM leaders led by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, among others.

He proceeded inside the house, where he met Raila Odinga’s spouse, Mama Ida Odinga, who was scheduled to accompany the delegation that left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to bring back Raila’s body to Kenya.

Ida Odinga was surrounded by top ODM officials, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.

The former president had earlier shared his tribute to the late former prime minister through his social media pages, whom he ardently supported during the 2022 general election, though he was defeated by the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

“My heart is heavy, and my spirit is burdened with a grief that is both profound and deeply personal. The news of Raila’s passing has left a silence that echoes across our nation, a silence where once there was a voice of thunder and conviction. I have lost a friend and a brother. I will miss our conversations, sometimes challenging, always insightful, and the fire of belief that never left his eyes,” Uhuru said.

He further stated:

“To me, Raila was more than a political colleague; he was a defining part of my own journey, in public service and in life. Raila and I were navigators on opposing currents, charting different courses for the nation we both loved. At some point along that journey, we became political opponents, and often, the weight of that competition felt immense.
