Uhuru heads to Western with bag of goodies

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to kick-off his three day tour of the Western region of Kenya today.

Uhuru who landed at Kakamega in the evening of Thursday, July 22 is expected to inspect and launch various projects in Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia and Bungoma counties.

Key of the developments projects the Head of State is expected to launch include the planned construction of of the Ksh100 million Kakamega Gold Refinery in Ikolomani constituency.

Uhuru is also expected to inspect the Ksh6 billion Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital set for an upgrade from level 5 to 6 hospital.

The initial construction phase of the facility cost tax payers Ksh2.5 billion but due to lack of adequate funding, Kakamega County government is reported to have approached the national government to take over the project, which will serve as a referral facility in Western Kenya.

Debate about the fate of the former giant miller, Mumias Sugar Company is also expected to feature prominently during the President’ tour.

In Bungoma county, the President is expected to commission construction of the Matulo Airstrip in Webuye, Chwele Open Air Market and Kanduyi Stadium and address calls of a short term capital injection at Nzoia Sugar Factory.

During the tour, the President is also expected to award a charter to Kaimosi University College after inspecting the Vihiga Water Cluster Project.

Uhuru will also address residents of Busia after awarding a charter to Alupe University. He is also expected to inspect the Western and Eastern bypass roads from Mundika to Busia Town, Otimong to Angorom Public Works in Busia.
