UDA summons all elected leaders for key meeting ahead of grassroots elections
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has convened a National Governance Council (NGC) meeting to be held at the Bomas of Kenya on September 29, 2023.
In a notice to all members, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala said the meeting had been sanctioned by the party leader, President William Ruto.
All elected Governors, Senators, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) are expected to attend the meeting.
"Pursuant to and in accordance with Articles 7, 8.1(vi) (ix) and 24.5 (ii) of the United Democratic Alliance Constitution, the Secretary-General, upon request and concurrence of the Party Leader, H.E President William Ruto now and hereby convenes the National Governing Council to be held on 29th September 2023 at 9.00 am at Boma of Kenya," Malala said communiqué in dated Tuesday, September 19.
The party members — both elected and nominated — will be expected to fully regularise their subscriptions ahead of the key meeting.
Among the issues to be discussed during the forum is the party's grassroots elections set for December.
"The agenda of the meeting will be; preliminaries, chairperson's welcoming remarks, address by the party leader, party grassroots elections, and any other business," Malala added.

President Ruto recently said the grassroots elections are aimed at making the party more vibrant.
Speaking during the opening of the party offices at King'ong'o Estate in Nyeri on September 9, President Ruto affirmed that the elections will entrench democracy and eradicate tribal ethnicity in the country.
"This is the party that runs the government and that is why I'm announcing here in Nyeri to all members across the country that the elections will be held in December. We will announce the timetable for the elections. We want to eradicate tribalism and ethnicity from the party and make this a national party that reflects leaders from all tribes in Kenya. We want to unite the country," Ruto stated.
