UDA sends touching tribute following Enock Andanje’s sudden death

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expressed deep sorrow following the sudden death of Enock Andanje, a prominent aspirant for Malava Constituency, who collapsed and died on Friday, August 15, 2025, during a Widows’ Empowerment Forum in Kakamega County.

According to the party, Andanje’s passing is a profound loss, not just for UDA, but for the people of Malava whom he sought to serve with dedication and humility.

Dedicated servant of the people

In a statement signed by Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, the ruling party described Andanje as more than a political leader, hailing him as “a dedicated servant of the people, a voice for the vulnerable, and a true believer in empowerment and youth.”

His active engagement in community initiatives was evident at the time of his death, as he was participating in the Widows’ Empowerment Forum spearheaded by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The party noted that Andanje’s vision for Malava was deeply rooted in unity, dignity, and opportunity for all.

“We have lost a brother, a friend, and a patriot whose vision for Malava was rooted in unity, dignity, and opportunity for all. His death leaves a deep void in our party and in the hearts of the people he served,” the statement read in part.

Rising competition in politics

Andanje’s death comes at a time when the political landscape in Kenya is increasingly competitive. Recent data from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission indicates a 20 per cent surge in candidate registrations, particularly in constituencies such as Malava, which has undergone boundary changes since 1988.

Political analysts note that this heightened competition often places enormous pressure on aspirants. A 2023 Kenya Medical Research Institute study reported a 15 per cent rise in sudden cardiac events during public engagements, with stress cited as a possible contributing factor.

Condolences to family and supporters

UDA extended its sympathies to Andanje’s family, friends, supporters, and the people of Malava, offering words of comfort and solidarity.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, supporters, and the people of Malava Constituency during this difficult time. May they find strength and comfort in knowing that his legacy of service will live on,” read the statement.

The condolence message ended with a prayer for his eternal rest, reflecting the party’s commitment to honouring his contributions.

As the nation mourns, tributes continue to pour in from across the political divide, underscoring the respect Andanje commanded. His passing serves as a reminder of the personal sacrifices and pressures endured by those seeking to serve in public office.
