The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has announced new dates for grassroots elections as a section of Mount Kenya region members continues to issue demands.

In a notice dated Saturday, November 18, 2023, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malalah announced the elections will take place next year on April 12, 19 and 26.

This he noted was concluded following a deliberative meeting of the party’s Steering Committee chaired by the party leader, President, William Ruto.

“Following a deliberative meeting of UDA’s National Steering Committee chaired by the Party leader, H.E. President, William Samoei Ruto, PhD, CGH, the Party has resolved to postpone the scheduled December 9th elections to 12th, 19th, and 26th April 2024, respectively.

“All candidates and members of the Party are encouraged to continue sensitizing and recruiting members to the Party. APPLY TO PARTICIPATE in the April 12th,19th, and 26th 2024 Grassroots Elections by clicking the link- https://app.uda.ke/grassroot or https://uda.ke,” the notice states.

This comes after a section of leaders from Mount Kenya called for the region to be handed the UDA’s Secretary General’s position.

The leaders led by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga advocated for the restructuring of the political outfit where they recommended the Deputy Leader’s seat be reserved for one person.

They also want the seat to not only be preserved for the Mount Kenya region but also be occupied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
