UDA: Malala abduction claims just ‘drama’
UDA officials have advised former UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala to end his “drama” about what allegedly happened to his son and 19-year-old brother-in-law. Malala had claimed that the two were abducted at gunpoint in Nairobi on Monday before being tortured for hours. He also alleged that kidnappers were also looking for his wife and wanted his relatives to show them his Kitengela residence.
But UDA officials have dismissed the claims, saying the so-called abductors had been sent by the party to reclaim vehicles Malala was still holding after he was ousted from the party.
“He has refused to return the party property, including vehicles. It was what led to that drama he is claiming to be an abduction,” said an official.
Malala had claimed on social media that his relatives were tortured for six hours. “On failing to find us at home they dumped them on Thika road; I have picked them, safe but traumatised,” he wrote. Police said the matter had not been reported to them by yesterday evening. UDA treasurer Japheth Nyakundi yesterday denied the abduction claims, saying UDA was just taking back its cars from Malala.
“As a party we are very sorry for the inconvenience but nobody is after your [Cleophas Malala’s] family. The UDA party was just taking back its cars that we had requested you to return and you refused,” Nyakundi wrote on social media.
Lastly everyone knew about your whereabouts because you were on a national television K24 for an interview. There was no abduction. Stop the drama.”
