UDA bags huge chunk of Political Parties Fund, ODM gets second largest portion

By , November 4, 2022

President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has been handed the most significant portion of the political parties fund after being allocated Ksh577,162,898.

According to a gazette notice dated November 2, 2022, the Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu stated that the funds allocated are set to be shared among 48 political parties in the 2022/2023 financial year. She also noted that the funds would also be disbursed quarterly.

“The Government has initiated the process of the re-alignment (budget cut) of the FY 2022/23 budget, and if the currently allocated amount of Ksh1,475,000,000 is affected by the budget alignment it will have an impact on the allocations,” Nderitu added.

The allocation of the political parties fund act follows the political parties Act 2021 which states that 70 percent of the fund is distributed proportionately in reference to the total number of votes by each party in the preceding general election.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) received the second largest portion after it was allocated Ksh308,260,679 while the Jubilee Party emerged third after it was given Ksh135,113,518.

Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party is set to receive Ksh72,110,017, while Wafula Wamunyinyi’s Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) party will receive Ksh31,626,281.

United Democratic Movement (UDM) party will receive Ksh26,897,846, Amani National Congress (ANC), Ksh26,600,684, and Ford-Kenya Ksh25,863,869.
