Tusker will be looking to avoid slip-ups in last two matches if they are to clinch title

Two potential Football Kenya Federation Premier League titlists Tusker and KCB are on tenterhooks as the 2020/21 season enters the penultimate round this weekend.

While league leaders Tusker face Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma, second placed KCB test AFC Leopards in the second match of the double header at Thika Stadium.

Tusker, who are leading the standings with 61 points, have the brightest chances to win the title given that they have a three-point advantage at the top.

The interesting bit is that should Tusker lose and KCB win, both teams will be at par on 61 points each with the decider coming in the final fixtures on Saturday.

Although Tusker are seemingly in a vantage position to secure their 12th KPL title,  Nzoia under coach Ibrahim Shikanda will be in no mood to let them win the title against them and especially given that the Sugar Millers, who are placed in the 14th position, are themselves fighting relegation.

For KCB, their experienced coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno has urged his charges to increase the push for the title, the challenge by Tusker notwithstanding.

“We have two matches remaining and if we can pluck maximum points and Tusker falters, we shall realise our dream. We are analysing the fixtures to make the most out of them,” said Otieno.

In a nutshell, defeats to either Tusker or KCB in the two remaining fixtures will spell doom to their title chances.

In the meantime, Vihiga United coach Mike Mururi has said they are ready to risk life and limb when they face Kakamega Homeboyz in an Ingo Derby at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega today.

Vihiga United are staring at relegation and a defeat will almost be catastrophic to their chances of remaining in the top tier league action.

“We do not want the embarrassment of being demoted. I agree that the 14th position is not where we are supposed to be, but we are not glued there for heaven’s sake.’’

Added Mururi: “To me, there is a reasonably clear threshold for us to evade the big chop and I have been urging my players to keep on working hard to achieve the club’s objectives.”

Elsewhere, there will be a protracted battle for a third place between Bandari, AFC Leopards, Kariobangi Sharks, Nairobi City Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz.

Bandari, who are third in the pecking order, face atricky clash against 12th placed Sofapaka at Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi as Leopards face a mountainous task against title-seeking KCB in Thika.

Kakamega Homeboyz also have their work cut out in the Ingo Derby against Vihiga United and which has been the talk amongst football fans in Kakamega since last week.
