Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has broken his silence on his personal security concerns and political future during an emotional homecoming event in Ralingo village.

Tuju, who addressed a large gathering of residents at his rural home on Friday, April 10, 2026, spoke candidly about the challenges he is currently facing, particularly the hidden threats he is currently going through. Tuju said he is going through immense pressure, but maintained that he remains mentally strong despite the circumstances.

“I am mentally ready for any torture that anybody may want to put me through,” Tuju declared.

Burial wishes

In a dramatic moment during the gathering, Tuju pointed out two specific locations within his homestead where he would wish to be buried when he dies. One of the sites is located next to his father’s grave, while the other lies behind his own residence, leaving the final decision to his family.

He revealed that he would prefer to be buried within 48 hours of his death, insisting that his funeral should be handled privately without state involvement.

“Nobody lives here forever. When the time comes, I would like to be buried within 48 hours,” he said.

“I don’t want the state to be involved in my funeral, pretending that they have anything to do with me. I have shown my family two spots, and they will make a decision,” he added.

Tuju also disclosed that at one point, he was forced to go into hiding after noticing he was being trailed by unknown individuals. He claimed that instead of receiving protection from authorities, he said he was mistreated when he sought help from a police station.

“In a normal country, when people are trailing you, you run to the nearest police station, but when I went there, I was assaulted, put in a cell, and later released on a free bond,” he said.

Surviving life-threatening incidents

The former CS recounted surviving life-threatening incidents in the past, including a plane crash that claimed lives. He further spoke about a serious road accident that left him with multiple injuries and a slim chance of survival.

“I survived the accident with 18 bones broken and a total of 21 injuries. My family was even counselled because I only had a 30 per cent chance of surviving,” he said.

Tuju attributed his survival to faith, saying he remains unshaken despite intimidation or threats.

“My God is within me, and when you try to intimidate me, you are wasting your time,” he stated.

Tuju on his political future

Speaking about his political future, Tuju said he is yet to make a final decision on whether he will return to active politics.

He emphasised that he would first consult widely with his supporters and community members before making any move.

“The most important thing is the role you play in society. What I am going through is what many ordinary people go through,” he said.

He further claimed that land grabbing remains a major issue affecting citizens and criticised the judiciary, terming it among the most corrupt institutions. Tuju noted that his efforts to fight for justice are not necessarily tied to holding political office.

“It is part of my responsibility to fight for what is right, and you don’t have to be in the political arena to make a difference,” he said.

He also used the occasion to give back to his community by offering employment opportunities to local residents.

Tuju announced that he had already provided 10 job opportunities to members of the community and revealed that hundreds more have benefited in recent months.

“In the last three months, I have employed hundreds of people in my hotel and sponsored some to study abroad,” he said.
