The Teacher Service Commission has issued an update on the teachers’ security following an incident in Garissa County that left one teacher dead.

In a statement by the Commission on the official TSC X account on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the commission assured teachers across the country of their security while confirming a framework set in place for the safety of teachers.

“Further to the statement issued by the Commission on 26th January, 2026, the Commission wishes to inform the public as follows: The issue of the security and safety of teachers not just in Garissa County but the entire country is now being handled within the framework of a multi-agency team comprising key government institutions, including the security agencies,” TSC stated.

In addition, the Commission further added that the framework is in line with ensuring the principle of a whole government approach aimed at safeguarding the security of our teachers with a view to facilitating teaching and learning in all schools in Kenya.

“The Commission is calling upon all stakeholders, host communities, religious groups and the entirety of our society to support our teachers who are spread all over the country and continue to offer their services with utmost dedication, courage and commitment to enable our country to realise the right to education for all the children of Kenya,” TSC added.

TSC also noted that the commission is working closely with the security agencies and has sent a team of senior officers to Garissa County to engage the teachers and assess the situation on the ground.

Further adding that the officials on the ground will provide the necessary support to the affected teachers.

Robbed a young teacher

On the other hand, the Commission has strongly condemned the Garissa attack, describing it as a heinous and cowardly act, which has not only robbed a young teacher of his dear life but also undermined the right to education, peace, and security for teachers and learners alike.

“We wish to inform the public that the Commission takes the safety and security of teachers seriously and will offer all the necessary support to improve the welfare of its employees,” TSC added.

Similarly, the Commission has appealed to teachers across the country to remain calm, as the matter is receiving the urgent attention of the Commission, together with the Multi-Agency Government Team.

“On behalf of the Commission and the entire teaching fraternity, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Stephen Vundi Musili, his relatives, colleagues, and learners during this moment of profound grief,” TSC stated.
