TSC deregisters 7 teachers after disciplinary process

By , July 12, 2026

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deregistered seven teachers following the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings, according to Gazette Notice No. 10602 published in the Kenya Gazette.

The notice, signed by Acting Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Everleen Mitei, was issued under Section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act. The commission said the seven teachers were removed from the Register of Teachers with effect from February 25, 2026.

The gazette notice states that the disciplinary action was taken in accordance with Section 30 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act.

“IN EXERCISE of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, Cap. 212 of the Laws of Kenya, the Commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the schedule below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (2) of the Act,” the gazette notice read in part.

What deregistration means

The commission said teachers whose names have been removed from the register immediately cease to be recognised as teachers under the Act.

Under Sections 30 (4) and (5) and Section 23 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, a deregistered teacher cannot be reinstated unless the Commission directs otherwise.

The law further provides that a person whose name has been removed from the register ceases to be a teacher from the date of removal and cannot engage in teaching unless registered by the commission.

The gazette notice reminds the public that only registered teachers are permitted to teach in Kenya’s learning institutions.

The commission said the provisions are intended to safeguard professional standards in the teaching service and ensure only qualified and registered persons are allowed to teach.

Warning to schools

TSC also warned schools against employing teachers whose names have been removed from the register.

The commission cited Regulation 18 (1) (c) and (d) of the Code of Regulations for Teachers, read together with Section 45 of the Teachers Service Commission Act, which makes it an offence for unregistered persons to teach or for institutions to employ them.

Under the law, anyone who teaches without registration, or any institution that permits or employs an unregistered teacher, is liable to a fine of not less than Ksh100,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.

The commission urged school administrators to verify the registration status of teachers before offering employment.

Part of ongoing disciplinary action

The latest deregistration follows previous disciplinary actions undertaken by the commission in recent years.

TSC has periodically published the names of teachers removed from the register after disciplinary proceedings in line with the Teachers Service Commission Act.

The commission has maintained that disciplinary processes are conducted in accordance with the law before any decision to remove a teacher from the register is made.

The publication of Gazette Notice No. 10602 formally notifies the affected teachers and the public that the seven individuals are no longer authorised to practise as teachers in Kenya unless their registration is reinstated by the commission.
