The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the appointment of Sharon J. Kisire as its new vice chairperson, effective May 21, 2026.

In the announcement made on Saturday, May 23, 2026, via X, the Commission confirmed that Kisire takes over from Leila Ali Abdi, MBS, whose tenure as Vice Chairperson has come to an end.

“The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the appointment of CS Sharon J. Kisire, MBS, as the new TSC Vice Chairperson, effective from 21st May 2026. She takes over following the completion of the tenure of Ms. Leila Ali Abdi, MBS,” TSC stated.

The appointment marks a key leadership transition within the TSC, which oversees the management and regulation of teachers across Kenya’s education system.

End of tenure for outgoing Vice Chair

The Commission also acknowledged the service of outgoing Vice Chairperson Leila Ali Abdi, noting that her tenure concluded following her term in office.

Her leadership period is expected to be remembered as part of TSC’s broader institutional development and reforms in the education sector.

Well wishes and expectations

TSC called on stakeholders in the education sector to support the incoming Vice Chairperson as she assumes her new role.

“Join us in wishing CS Sharon J. Kisire all the best in her new leadership role,” the statement read.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Kisire is an experienced human resources professional and leader with a wealth of experience gained from both private and public institutions and general consulting.

She has also held senior leadership positions at Kenya Pipeline Company, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), National Oil Corporation, and Safaricom.

She is a Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) Certified Secretary and a Certified Governance Auditor under the Institute of Certified Secretaries, and holds both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Kenyatta University, and she also has a Diploma in Human Resource Management.

Before her appointment, Kisire served as the Head of HR Consulting at Powerhouse HR Consulting, LLC.

Her appointment comes at a time when the Commission continues to implement reforms aimed at improving teacher welfare, recruitment, and deployment across the country.

This also comes a month after President William Ruto directed the TSC to recruit 1,800 teachers from northern Kenya as part of what he described as affirmative action aimed at correcting long-standing imbalance in education staffing.

Speaking in Banisa, Mandera County, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the president said the government would also immediately employ 100 teachers specifically for the area to ensure schools do not lack staff when the new term begins.

He linked the move to what he called historical exclusion in teacher recruitment, saying children in northern Kenya had for years been disadvantaged whenever teachers from other regions left their posts.

“Na kwa sababu elimu ni ya muhimu, tayari nisha kubaliana na Mheshimiwa ya kwamba tutaajiri walimu mia moja mpya hapa Banisa. Walimu ngapi? Mia moja,” Ruto said.
