The body of a lecturer at the University of Nairobi who went missing on Thursday last week has been found at the City Mortuary.

Dr Samuel Mararo, 37, a political science lecturer at the University of Nairobi, was reported missing on February 22 after he failed to show up at home on February 20.

His family then put up a poster of him seeking help in tracing him.
Records at the facility indicated that the body was taken there after being found lifeless on the streets. Cause of the death is yet to be known.

His brother Joseph Kagiri said they identified the body yesterday morning.
The family has since learned that the body was picked up from Bus Station area after being found on the streets.

Kagiri said they suspect his brother was drugged and robbed of his laptop, mobile phone and cash. “He had no physical injuries at the time we saw the body and we believe he was drugged,” he said.

The father of two was heading to his Kariobangi home when he was probably drugged and robbed.
Detectives have launched investigations into the matter with preliminary reports indicating that the thieves used his MPesa account to withdraw an unknown amount of money from his bank accounts. The transactions were made in Kayole, Njiru sub-county.

The incident has raised concerns over the manner in which police handle cases of unidentified bodies transferred to mortuaries.

Failure to follow procedures, reluctance, and lack of keenness have been identified as some of the reasons why the mortuaries across the country are choking with “unidentified bodies”.
