Various leaders are also expected to speak up on the matter.
On Saturday, July 13, 2024, President William Ruto directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to speed up the investigation into the deaths of Kenyans whose bodies were found in the quarry.
Similarly, Azimio la Umoja leaders led by their Principal Raila expressed their condolences on Sunday, July 14, 2024, and addressed a large number of Kenyans who had gathered to witness the ongoing body retrieval exercise.
Raila and other Azimio leaders assured the residents that they would ensure perpetrators of the heinous act were brought to book.
“Visited the Quarry of Horrors in Kware dumpsite Nairobi today, with fellow Azimio leaders to condole with Kenyans who gave us 3 messages as we assured them that those who bear the greatest responsibility for these atrocities will face the full force of the Law,” Eugene Wamalwa wrote on his X page.
Multi-sectoral forum to kick off
Various legislators are expected to react to the planned multi-sectoral dialogue forum.
The forum, which is set to begin on Monday, July 15 and conclude on Saturday, is expected to foster national dialogue and seek lasting solutions to Kenya’s pressing issues. The Multi-sectoral Forum is intended to span six days.
Ruto stated that the forum would include 150 members, with 50 representatives from the youth and 100 drawn from religious institutions, civil society, professional organisations, political parties, and other stakeholders.
Ruto emphasized the importance of the forum stating that it would propose the way forward for the country.
“This forum will begin on Monday, next week and end on Saturday next week, it will be a 6-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country,” Ruto said.
The various stakeholders were required to submit their representatives by Friday, July 12, 2024.
Azimio la Umoja Co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday, July 13, distanced himself from the dialogue and advised his Azimio Boss Raila Odinga against having a dialogue.
Kalonzo maintained that no matter how many dialogues were held to address pressing issues, they would not result in any meaningful change. He cited previous dialogues that produced no tangible results between the opposition and the government.
“Without a good political will, even if you have dialogue 20 times, even if you have dialogue 100 times, it will end up with nothing my brother Raila,” Kalonzo noted.
