Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Harambee Stars in final
National team side Harambee Stars will square it out with Zimbabwe in the Four-Nations final at the Bingu National Stadium on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
The match is the ultimate action of the tournament that has been ongoing in Lilongwe, Malawi and Kenya will hope to secure the title against the COSAFA nation.
Given how they performed in the semi-final against the hosts, hopes are high that the senior side will deliver in the game that will start at 5:00 p.m.
The junior side was defeated in the final by Malawi after going down 3-1 on Sunday.
Eyes on Safari Rally
The Kenyan and international Safari Rally fraternity have their eyes firmly on the upcoming round three of the global adventure that will be held in Naivasha over the weekend.
On March 26, led by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, the project oversight and rally sporting teams briefed President William Ruto on the readiness of the WRC Safari Rally.
The Kenyan actions come after a six-week break, and one of the big challenges set to be faced by drivers is the heavy rainfall already experienced in the country.
Despite that, the action is expected to provide entertainment on the Easter weekend.
Meanwhile, the reigning FIA World Rally Champion Kalle Rovanpera will look to eclipse a miserable Rally Sweden with a strong outing at Safari Rally Kenya. The Finn has finished first and second in the past two editions of Safari Rally Kenya and will hope for a far better outing this time.
On the other hand, Ott Tanak is hoping this week’s Safari Rally Kenya will help get his challenge for this year’s World Rally Championship back on track.
Heavy rains
After heavy rains pounded various parts of Nairobi City on Sunday evening, more residents are expected to follow weather updates keenly.
Following the heavy downpour, five people were reported dead, and others are missing. A police officer at Kamukunji station is among those reported dead.
Four other victims were swept by water in the Embakasi, Buruburu, Gigiri, and Dagoreti areas.
A number of roads, including Peponi, Ojijo, Bunyala, Nairobi Expressway, Baricho, and Jogoo roads, were also affected.
Fight against illicit brew
With the fight against illicit brew ongoing, eyes will be on top government officials spearheading the effort.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki have been at the forefront.
On March 26, the government announced that it had shut down a total of 18,650 liquor stores that were operating illegally in the country.
Also shut down are 14 distilleries operating illegally, with their equipment destroyed to avert further brewing of illicit alcohol.
Among the liquor joints shut down are 6,500 operating in unauthorised areas and 12,250 operating without licences.
