Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

1. Govt’s performance review

The Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group retreat being held in Naivasha, Nakuru County continues.

This is part of the second annual National Executive meeting and is set to run until Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

During the meeting, the lawmakers will present a progress report on the second session of the 13th Parliament and set the agenda for the upcoming third session.

Meanwhile, on today’s main agenda, is an administration’s performance review of the cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and other senior government officials.

Notably, this is the second meet-up after the inaugural retreat held last year in Nanyuki, Nyeri County.

2. Ruling on Henry Maritim’s graft case

On the legal front, the Eldoret Anti Corruption Court is set to make a ruling on Henry Maritim Koech and five others charged with conspiracy to commit graft and deceiving principal.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) noted their allegations related to embezzlement of Ksh12.2 million for tenders awarded to Makiki Agencies for upgrading road construction within Nandi County.

3. Ngolesia forgery case

At the same time, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will continue with the hearing of the case involving Samuel Ngolesia, also known as Samuel Krop Ngolesia.

Ngolesia faces charges including uttering false documents, forgery, deceiving a principal, fraudulent acquisition of public documents, and providing false information.

These allegations stem from the forgery of academic certificates purportedly used by Ngolesia while seeking employment in the Public Service.

4. Power blackout

Kenya Power announced that scheduled power interruptions on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, will affect seven counties, including parts of Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Kisumu, Nyeri, Kiambu and Kilifi.

“The listed areas will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (20th February 2024). The interruption is part of network maintenance,” Kenya Power said.

Parts of Nairobi will experience a power blackout between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. The areas are Umoja 2 SDA, Umoja Zone 8, Davana Hotel, Salute Greenpark and adjacent areas.

In Uasin Gishu, Kapchumba secondary and primary schools, Jomba Baharini Police Post and adjacent customers will experience power interruptions from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Other areas listed for power maintenance in Uasin Gishu are Mwamba, Majengo, Turbo, NYS, Besiobor, Tapsagoi, Cheplaskei, Kosachei and adjacent customers. The exercise will run from 9:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Parts of Kakamega County are scheduled to experience power interruptions from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The areas are Harambe Market, Khalaba Bridge, Musamba, Panyako, Parts of Mayoni, Soweto, Mukheya, Namasanda, Wanchi and adjacent customers.

In Kisumu, the blackout will be experienced in Chemelil Factory, Gul Primary School, Potopoto, Simba Excel/Shamji Haji, Lwala, Chemutia and adjacent areas.

In Nyeri, the power interruption will affect Mathaithi kwa Mugambi, Wariruta, Karindundu, Kiangogoyo, Kiahiti, Muchohi, Kirimara High School, Kirimara Village, Ndima-ini Market, Mutoi, and Kahuti-ini.

Other areas include Gatina, Gakuyu Secondary School, Kirigu Coffe Factory, Gakuyu Village, Karembu, Konyu, Kiamabara Mkt, Mungetho Market, Kieni Coffe Factory, Kieni Village, Gathugu Market, Gaturiri, Kahara DEB Primary School, Kahara Village, Ihiga, Kagumo-ini, Munengere, Mt. Carmel Secondary School, Mukangu Secondary School, Mukangu Mkt, Mukangu Dispensary, Githungungu, Mutwe Wathi C/Factory, Mutwe Wathi Water Pump, Ichamara, Ngoru, Kimondo, Thangathi, Kiuu, Ujamaa and adjacent customers.

Parts of Giakanja Market, Tumus, Giakanja Secondary School, Ikumbo and adjacent customers will also be affected during the power maintenance set to run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Similarly, parts of Kiambu County including Tola, Kiahuria Shopping Center, Metro, Ngoingwa, Compuera, M-Pesa Academy, Muiri, Albbizia and adjacent customers are also listed for maintenance.

Additionally, parts of Kilifi County will experience a power blackout between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

The areas are Baharini Primary School, Kadzengo, Kitchen King, Mzuri II, Mega Courture, Part of Pwani Oil, My Pasta, Kikambala Posta, Part of Elsek Estate, Bodoi Stage, Ndune Fish Farm, Afriware EPZ, Total Amkeni, Revital EPZ, Madina, Msumarini Madrassa, Safepak, Pride Industries, Jallaram Plastics and adjacent areas.
