Kelvin Kiptum’s tributes:
The sudden and tragic death of Kelvin Kiptum has sent shockwaves through the running community and beyond. At just 24 years old, Kiptum was already a world record-holder and a rising star in the world of distance running.
Kiptum’s untimely passing in a road traffic accident on Sunday, along with his coach Gervais Hakizimana, has left a void in the sport and in the hearts of many. His potential was evident from the start, and his meteoric rise in road running was nothing short of extraordinary.
Making his marathon debut in December 2022, Kiptum immediately caught the attention of the world by winning in Valencia with an impressive time of 2:01:53. However, it was his stunning performance less than a year later, when he shattered the world record with a time of 2:00:35 in Chicago, that truly solidified his status as a prodigious talent.

Launch of Data-Driven Cities Conference
Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Eliud Owalo is expected to launch the Data-Driven Cities Conference, which takes place on February 12-13, 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as online.
The conference brings together stakeholders from city and national governments, academia, business, and civil society from Germany, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa.
It focuses on data use for urban well-being, aiming to discuss the need for urban data strategies, exchange information, and share good practices on urban data-driven projects to pave the way towards urban prosperity and sustainability.
The conference aims to promote a common understanding of the benefits of data utilization for well-being in cities. It looks at how cities can create an enabling environment to encourage the generation, exchange, and use of data, providing a unique opportunity to share best practices and learn from use cases that illustrate the benefits of data use in urban spaces.
EACC Court Cases
The Mention of Joel Kaunda Ontoya and three others charged with abuse of office at the Anti-Corruption Court, Isiolo.
Besides that, the hearing of Sospeter Ojaamong, former Busia County Governor, and others charged with abuse of office and conspiracy to commit an economic crime at Milimani Anti-Corruption Court continues.
Power Interruptions
Kenya Power and Lighting Company announced scheduled power interruptions in select parts of six counties, including Homa Bay, Embu, Nyeri, Machakos, Kiambu, and Kilifi, on Monday, February 12, 2024. The maintenance is scheduled during specific hours in each area.
