Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Kenneth Kamumbu Mugo’s pre-trial

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the case against Kenneth Kamumbu Mugo, a Superintendent Engineer at the Ministry of Roads and Transport and former Director of Roads at Kiambu County Government, is scheduled for pre-trial at the Kiambu Anti-Corruption Court this Monday.

Mugo faces charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property, forgery, and uttering a false document. The allegations involve his purported use of a fake Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree certificate to secure employment, resulting in the fraudulent acquisition of Ksh3.2 million in salaries from the Kiambu County Government.

Simultaneously, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) aims to recover all the salary and benefits Mugo obtained from public funds based on falsified academic qualifications.

Richard Mutule Kilonzo case

In a related case, the Milimani Anti-Corruption court will have a mention of Richard Mutule Kilonzo’s case.

The former CEO of Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) is charged with the illegal acquisition of salary advances totalling Ksh7.71 million, despite not qualifying for such benefits.

Peter Mukhanji/Nifrey Musilivi

The Milimani Anti-corruption court will handle the mention of Peter Mukhanji and Nifrey Musilivi Tero’s case. Both individuals face charges of conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption and willful failure to comply with procurement laws.

The allegations involve the misappropriation of Ksh2.2 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) funds intended for the purchase of computers in Embakasi South Constituency during the financial year 2013/2014.

Henry Maritim ruling

The EACC has revealed that in Eldoret, the Anti-corruption court is set to rule on a case involving Henry Maritim Koech and five others.

They face charges of conspiracy to commit corruption and deceiving the principal, with allegations related to the embezzlement of Ksh2.2 million for various tenders for road construction upgrades within Nandi County.

Shifting the focus to sports, the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 continues with three matches on the third day.

Senegal, defending champions, will face Gambia in the early kick-off, Cameroon will tackle Guinea at 8:00 pm East Africa Time, and the final match of the day will feature Algeria against Angola at 11:00 pm.
