Here is what you need to know in order to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Sugarcane Harvest

The sugarcane harvest is set to begin this week after a temporary suspension of milling services by the Agricultural Food Authority and the National Government.

This suspension, which started on July 13, 2023 was intended to allow the sugarcane to mature. Mumias Sugar weighbridge is scheduled to start receiving sugarcane this November 27, and the first day of crushing for Mumias is set for December 1.

West Kenya farmers will commence harvesting on Tuesday, also with crushing scheduled for December 1. Nzoia Sugar and Butali are expected to resume their operations as well.

Road closure/opening updates

The heavy rains in the region have led to road closures in various areas. The Kenya National Highways Authority is expected to provide updates on the status of closed roads and the anticipated reopening schedule. The Authority is also expected to give updates on the latest areas that have been affected.

The Madogo-Garissa Road is the latest road affected, with a section between Tana River Bridge and Madogo town experiencing a major washout at Kona Punda near Mororo.

Harambee Starlets Expecting Key Players

Harambee Starlets’ camp at the Kasarani Stadium is preparing for a full house as the last batch of foreign-based players is expected to arrive.

Among the players scheduled to join the camp are goalkeeper Annedy Kundu, forward Violet Nanjala, Vivian Nasaka, Enez Mango, Dorcas Shikobe, Cyntia Shilwatso, Mwanahalima Dogo Adam, and striker Terry Engesha.

Botswana have already arrived in preparation for the WAFCON qualifier against Kenya, scheduled to take place at the Nyayo National Stadium at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
