Kericho governor impeachment hearings

The Senate will begin a two-day hearing of the impeachment motion against Kericho governor Erick Kipkoech Mutai after the County Assembly impeached him.

The session will kick off with a pre-hearing meeting for Senators in camera from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by the reading of charges and opening statements by both parties.

The County Assembly of Kericho will present its case, enumerating the allegations of gross violation of the Constitution, including accusations of misappropriation of county revenue and failure to automate revenue collection systems, resulting in significant financial losses for the County.

Among other charges is the claim that Governor Mutai has exhibited an extravagant lifestyle and presided over an administration troubled with procurement irregularities and tender manipulation. Allegations of abuse of office further extend to illegal appointments and improper directives that undermined the oversight role of the County Assembly.

Reactions to Raila’s support for Adani

Reactions are expected from Raila Odinga’s open support for the government’s deals with Indian conglomerate Adani Holdings in the nation’s infrastructural projects.

While a significant number of Kenyans have expressed opposition to the Adani Group’s intended contracts in the Healthcare, Energy and Aviation industry, Raila’s sentiments on Sunday, October 13, 2024, seem to have emboldened the state to proceed with the projects.

Discussions around the matter are expected to generate a lot of mixed reactions from the different stakeholders and politicians.
