Reactions to Gachagua’s impeachment motion

Reactions are expected to dominate news headlines today after Parliament approved an impeachment motion to be discussed in Parliament on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

In the impeachment notice which 291 members of Parliament supported against a threshold of just 117, Gachagua faces the battle of his life as his fate now solely rests in the laps of the MPs and Senate.

Some of the issues raised as grounds for Gachagua’s impeachment range from allegedly making inflammatory remarks, a gross violation of the Constitution and laws, and bullying of state and public officers.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said on Tuesday that the House will allow public participation in all 47 counties before the impeachment motion is heard next week.

Wetang’ula said all parliament sessions will be suspended to allow time for the public participation exercise before the motion is considered on October 8, 2024.

“Noting that the motion will be considered on October 8, I have directed that the Deputy President be notified of his right to appear on the said date from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm,” he said.

Confusion as SHA takes over from NHIF

Reactions are expected to flow in regarding the Social Health Authority (SHA) operationalisation yesterday, October 1, 2024, after a section of patients lamented that they were forced to pay for services like dialysis from out of their pockets.

While the authority requires all households to register before getting access to healthcare, it is yet to be known how the health system will adapt to the new changes in the industry.
