Ruto Heads to China

President William Ruto is set to arrive in China this Monday ahead of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit, which kicks off on Wednesday.

Ruto departed on Sunday after touring the Nyanza region and Bungoma County.

The 2024 FOCAC summit marks the ninth gathering of its kind, aiming to shape the evolving strategic partnership between China and Africa in the post-COVID era. The summit comes at a time of increasing geopolitical tensions, with Beijing keen on solidifying its position relative to other global powers.

Key topics for negotiation include climate and energy, with an emphasis on sustainable development. The summit will also focus on digital and technology cooperation, as stakeholders aim to bridge Africa’s digital divide.

Historically, FOCAC has resulted in significant financial commitments for projects in infrastructure, agriculture, and manufacturing across Africa.

Gachagua to Commission New Management Systems

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will commission the Foreign Travel Management Information System (FOTIMS) and the Presidential Directives Management Information System this Monday.

The Presidential Directives Management Information System is designed to track the implementation of directives issued by President William Ruto, ensuring effective execution.

Meanwhile, FOTIMS will monitor the foreign travels of state and public officers, providing better oversight and management.

Harambee Stars Depart for Uganda

The Harambee Stars squad will depart for Uganda this Monday in preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Namibia, scheduled for September 6 and 10, 2024.

The traveling team includes AFC Leopards players Levis Opiyo and Victor Omune, who was recently named Player of the Season for 2023/24. Also included in the squad are Sylvester Owino, Amos Nondi, and Eric Johana.

St Mirren striker Jonah Ayunga returns to the squad after missing the previous international window. According to the Football Kenya Federation, Captain Michael Olunga, Jonah Ayunga, Eric Ouma, Joseph Okumu, and Richard Odada are set to join the team in Uganda.

Notable absentees from the final list include Ian Otieno (Richards Bay FC), Collins Sichenje (Vojvodina), Kayci Odhiambo (AFC Leopards), Patrick Otieno (KCB), and Clifton Miheso (AFC Leopards).
