Madaraka Day

The country is set to mark Madaraka Day celebrations, with President William Ruto and other leaders heading to Bungoma County for the festivities.

The President arrived in Bungoma on Thursday for a four-day visit to the county, coinciding with this year’s Madaraka Day.

This year’s celebrations will take place at the newly refurbished Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma. Madaraka Day is a national holiday celebrated every June 1 in Kenya, commemorating the day in 1963 when Kenya attained internal self-rule after being a British colony since 1920.

Madaraka Cup

AFC Leopards and Nzoia Sugar will face off on Saturday at the newly refurbished Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma County in the Madaraka Cup.

The match is scheduled for June 1, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. The Leopards are seeking a win after missing out on the league and FKF Cup in the 2023/24 season.

Nzoia Sugar, despite their relegation following the 2023/24 campaign, will also be chasing a good result.

Kenya 7s key weekend

Kenya 7s will continue to push for the HSBC Sevens promotion on Saturday night. Shujaa have played two matches and will conclude the third match, which will determine their qualifier playoff opponent. Shujaa are expected to play Chile at 8:18 p.m. after day one matches.

Kenya 7s are in Pool B alongside Spain, Samoa, and Chile. Spain and Samoa, both finishing in the bottom four in the HSBC Sevens, will be making their playoff debut, while Kenya 7s and Chile qualified for this competition after securing top-four finishes in the Challenger Series.
