Education CS George Magoha released the KCPE results on 15th April, 2021 at Mitihani House.

The top candidate in the country Mumo Faith Kawee scored 433 marks followed by a tie by Wesonga Yvette Nanzala, from Chogoria Girls and Muriithi Angel Gakenia from Maseno girls with 432.

The third position had three ties by Wanyonyi Samuel,Castrol Williams and Tarus Jepkemboi with 431 marks.

Mwangi Margrate Waruguru from Karatina DEB together with Kipkirui Abiud scored 430 marks.

Bernice Omondi and Joy Nkatha with 429 marks.

The tenth position was occupied by five candidates Daniel Chris Mboya, Njenga Lowell, Jeff Mutugi, Polycap Kiyondi and Debra Zawadi who scored 428 marks.

Out of the top 10 candidates, 8 are girls and 7 are boys.

8,091 candidate scored over 400 marks.

A total of 1,179,192 candidates sat the 2020 KCPE examination, an increase from 1,083,456 students in 2019.

Of these, 590450 (50.07%)were boys and 488,742 (49.93%) are girls. The number of absent students slightly increased with a margin of 0.58% frrom 6,272 in 2019 to 12,424 in 2020. of candidates.

A total of 20 counties recorded a high number of femele candidates than male counterparts including Isiolo, Meru, Vihiga, Siaya, Tharaka nithi, mombasa, Makueni, Kisumu ,Bomet, Uasin Gichu, Kakamega, Busia, Nairobi, Kwale, Elgeyo Marakwet, Siaya, Kisii, Bungoma, Kilifi, Lamu, Mombasa, Makueni and Migori.

AGE PROFILE

A total of 806,720 (67.7%) candidates were in the appropriate age bracket of 13 to 14 years.

Candidates with 12 years and below increased from 20,086 in 2019 to 26,378 candidates in 2020 a margin of 2.21%. These counties West Pokot, Bomet , kericho and Bungoma and Baringo had the highest number of underage candidates.

Busia, Turkana,Garissa, Kwale and Kilifi counties recorded the highest number of candidates who were 19years old and above.

This year, candidates sat for the paper on March 22 and ended on March 24.  The papers were marked on a span of nine days and the compositions and insha were marked for a period of ten days by 4725 examiners in various examination centres.

BEST CANDIDATES
The best candidate Mumo Faith scored 433 marks an increase from last years top scorer Andy Michael Munyiri who scored 430 marks.

Top scorer among the candidates with special needs got 420 marks compared to 414 in 2019.

The overall performance increased which was throughly commendable considering the students did their exams following very strict covid 19 regulations.

SUBJECT PERFORMANCE

A total of five papers improved as compared to 2019 which are English Kiswahili, Religious education, Mathgematics and Kenya sign language.

However, a significant drop was recorded in five subjects Science, English, Kiswahili, Kenya sign language and Social Studies.

Male candidates led in Mathematics, Science social studies and Religious Education and the girls led in languages: English, Kiswahili and Kenyan Sign Language.

The CS stated that there will be a hundred percent transition to secondary schools for all candidates and the selection will take place on 28th May 2021.
